A Love Letter...To Great Britain

Weird fact: until I moved here, I’d never really thought of where home was. I mean, come on, I started travelling when I was three months old and I’m still not sure I’ve stopped. I’ve had 33 moves in 29 years – moving is what I do. But recently, I’ve been feeling a little weird. Down you might say. I know exactly why: I’m homesick. Because, I’ve realised that no matter how long I live away, Great Britain will always be home. In many ways, it’s actually a relief to say that. Like a piece of the puzzle that is me has slotted into place. Yes, I’ve lived all over the world, but my core, my soul, is British and always will be.

After a year of turmoil and strike that has been 2016, I wanted to pay tribute to my homeland. To borrow from Richard Curtis: “We may be a small country, but we’re a great one, too. The country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles, Sean Connery, Harry Potter.” (Love Actually lovers unite!) We’re also the land of rolling green fields, fish and chips, cobblestone streets, roaring pub fires, tiny cottages, crooked bookshops, bara brith and ancient castles…

Raspberry & Pimms Trifle Terrine

Raspberry & Pimms Trifle Terrine

How amazing does that Raspberry & Pimms Trifle Terrine look?! And now I’m totally inspired and in Brit mode so I’ve decided to dedicate the rest of this week to all my favourite British things: towns, cities and villages; museums, cathedrals and parks; places to eat, drink, be merry and recipes! YAY!

Now have you been to the U.K friend? What did you think? Do you have any favourite spots? Where is home for you?

Love,

Annéka xo
